Aiokii’s Budget Naya Zoo

wild-nacatl

Welcome back!

Taking a week off week recharged my batteries a bit and I’ve returned to offer my take on a deck that’s bounced around the net a bit over the years. Naya Zoo returned with the unbanning of Wild Nacatl. Since then, the prices of the cards needed to make the deck have consistently rose.

With a bit of legwork and web searching, I’m confidant I can produce a budget version of this Modern deck. of course, this deck is by no means up to par with it’s budget free version and the chances of you taking an event with this deck are slim but it gives you a good cheap skeleton to build from and practice with.

This deck will set you back just $45.

Modern Budget Naya Zoo

Let’s start off with the real damage dealers, the creatures… kird ape

4x Experiment One

4x Flinthoof Boar

4x Ghor-Clan Rampager

4x Kird Ape

4x Loam Lion

4x Wild Nacatl

Just like the competitive version, most of these creatures gain extra bonuses for having certain lands in play. This is the focus of the deck and involves a little preparation from your support cards but we’ll get to that later on.

4x Lightning Bolt

2x Mutagenic Growth

These two instants MUST be used very carefully. The deck contains little in the way of removal and these spells need to be used at the perfect time to be the most effective.

unflinching4x Chained to the Rocks

4x Unflinching Courage

Chained to the Rocks brings a bit of support to the deck in regards to stopping incoming creature damage. Unfortunately, since this deck is a budget version, this enchantment is not an instant like Path to Exile.

Unflinching Courage takes the place of the more effective Rancor. Thankfully, the budget Courage brings a lifelink aspect to the deck and a bit more longevity and durability.

3x Evolving Wilds

3x Terramorphic Expanse

The creatures in this deck demand you have certain lands in play. These two lands take the place of much more expensive fetch lands what will hurt your wallet. The non-budget lands are more effective of course, but as with any Modern deck, your mana base will be quite an expense. These two budget versions will allow you to run the deck albeit a tad slower.

I hope you enjoy this deck. It plays well and is a fun little deck to immerse yourself into Modern.
