How to Become a Nail Tech in Oklahoma
In order to become a licensed nail technician in the state of Oklahoma, you must first complete a cosmetology program that has been approved by the Oklahoma Board of Cosmetology.

In Oklahoma, nail techs are licensed by the Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering. Candidates must complete a minimum of 350 hours of study in an approved cosmetology school, which includes at least 50 hours devoted specifically to nails. Candidates must then pass examinations in cosmetology theory and practical skills. With a valid license, practitioners can work in salons, spas, resorts, or as mobile professionals.
The Oklahoma Cosmetology Association
In order to receive your nail technology license in the state of Oklahoma, you must complete a minimum of 400 clock hours in an approved school of cosmetology. Upon completion of your program, you will then need to pass both a written and practical exam in order to be licensed.
The Oklahoma Cosmetology Association (OCA) is the professional organization for cosmetologists and nail technicians in Oklahoma. The OCA exists to promote and protect the cosmetology profession through education and advocacy.
The Oklahoma Board of Cosmetology
In order to become a licensed nail technician in the state of Oklahoma, you must first complete an approved nail technology program. After completing your training, you will then need to pass two examinations administered by the Oklahoma Board of Cosmetology.
Once you have met all of the requirements and have been issued a license, you will be able to practice nail technology in Oklahoma. However, it is important to note that your license will need to be renewed on a biennial basis in order to remain in good standing.

An apprenticeship allows you to learn the trade while working under the supervision of a licensed professional. You will be able to work at your own pace and learn all the skills necessary to become a licensed nail technician.
The first step is to find a licensed nail tech who is willing to take you on as an apprentice. Once you have found someone, you will need to complete an application and pay the associated fees. After your application has been approved, you will be able to begin your apprenticeship.
During your apprenticeship, you will be expected to complete a certain number of hours of work and study. Once you have completed all the requirements, you will be eligible to take the state licensing exam.
Education and Training
Nail technicians in Oklahoma must complete a minimum of 350 hours of education and training from an accredited cosmetology or nail technology program. Aspiring nail techs can find programs at both public and private institutions, such as community colleges, career and technical schools, and beauty academies.
Most programs include classroom instruction in subjects such as anatomy, physiology, bacteriology, product chemistry, salon business, and salon safety. Students also receive hands-on training in manicures, pedicures, nail art, sculpting nails with acrylics and gels, wraps, and other techniques.
After completing their education and training requirements, candidates must pass a written and practical exam administered by the Oklahoma Board of Cosmetology to earn their license.
In order to renew your license, you will need to complete at least six (6) hours of continuing education. Of those six hours, two (2) must be in Infection Control, two (2) in Oklahoma State Board Approved Subjects, and the remaining two (2) can be in either category. Once you have completed your continuing education, you will need to submit a completed renewal application, along with the required fee, to the Board office.
